Vibrating Dumbbells – Do They Work?

Posted by Nathan Hamon on Sunday, February 27, 2011,

I must admit that the first time I ever saw the Ad for this contraption I laughed out loud!
Unfortunately I was drinking a glass of water at the time and the resulting geyser was quite the slap-
stick moment. As I wiped the water spillage from my shirt I decided to give the infomercial a chance
to convince me. 10 minutes later, it hadn’t. I’m sorry but this thing will NOT work. Why?

1. The weight is TOO LIGHT! Seriously the thing is 2.5 pounds (about a kilo)! My 1 year old can
curl more than...

Lolly Water

Posted by Nathan Hamon on Saturday, February 19, 2011,

If I were to sit down in a public place with my 1, 4 and 6 year-old children, and then feed them spoonfuls of sugar, what would be your reaction? Imagine I were to feed them 10 teaspoons of sugar each! I’m sure I would have to deal with a number of indignant glares and harsh words. I dare say that even the most liberal of parents would find something extremely disturbing about that image.

A 2005 survey showed that almost 80% of children in Western society were regular consumers of soft drin...

Kids Vs Junk Food

Posted by Nathan Hamon on Saturday, February 19, 2011,

There are wonderful childhood memories to be had in savouring the odd treat. I still remember my weekly walk to the corner store back in New Zealand with my nana where she would buy me a Jelly Tip ice-cream.
Recently I witnessed a father buying for his daughter a cream filled, iced donut thingy that was twice as big as her hand. “Perhaps it was a once in a blue moon treat,” I hear you say. This was part of the conversation that I overheard, “the pink one? But you had the pink one yester...

Eat Your Veges!

Posted by Nathan Hamon on Saturday, February 19, 2011, In : Diet and Nutrition

Hands up who eats at least 3 serves of vegetables and 2 serves of fruit a day? Okay you, you and you (the lady in the blue skirt,) you can stop reading this article. For the rest of you however, read on!

We may get plenty of reminders concerning how much vegetables and fruit we should be consuming but is the message getting through? According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, nearly 80% of Australians in the youth to young adult bracket don’t consume enough of either. The pe...

The Haunted Gym

Posted by Nathan Hamon on Saturday, February 19, 2011,

Have you ever purchased a gym membership full of excitement and plans to transform yourself in to a lean mean machine only to find yourself back on the couch after only a few visits? You are a Ghost Member! Every gym is full of ghosts! In fact, there are more ghosts than active members in nearly every gym on the planet.

Like a fire, in order to keep your enthusiasm burning, it needs to be stoked. Here are some of the reasons people leave their fitness goals by the wayside and how they can be ...

Interval Training for Weight Loss

Posted by Nathan Hamon on Saturday, February 19, 2011,

“I don’t have time to work out!”

Rubbish I say! Every one has at least 10 minutes and sometimes that’s all you need. If you can afford ½ an hour, that’s even better.

How can I burn the jelly in only a few minutes you ask? Easy! Well, maybe not easy but easily explained. It’s called Interval Training. It’s been around for ages and has proven itself (unlike those ab-thingamajigs on the infomercials). There are a number of variations but put simply it goes like this ‘Work Easy and...

The Worlds most Outrageous Diets

Posted by Nathan Hamon on Saturday, February 19, 2011,

Most of us have heard of diets such as ‘Atkins’, ‘South-Beach’ and ‘Grapefruit’. Such diets can initiate weight-loss but unlike a sensible eating plan, are extremely hard to maintain as a life-long habit and even if you could, would in the long-term lead your body down an ultimately unhealthy road. Today I’m touching on some of what I believe are the worlds weirdest diets.

The Cabbage soup diet: It is a diet self-explained by the title. Mm, here comes the flatulence! Have you he...
